In the spring of 1958, through the efforts of a small group of interested individuals, the Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association was formed. For the first several years, the club held their racing events on a parcel of land adjacent to the Funkstown American Legion. But in the mid-60's the track lease was not renewed at the Funkstown American Legion due to the construction of a new American Legion Hall on the track site. Racing activities were suspended for many years because a new track could not be obtained and interest seemed to fade.
It was not until 1981, when Frank Plessinger, the new promoter of the Hagerstown Speedway, gave the go-ahead to construct a quarter midget track adjacent to his 1/2 mile oval. The 80's brought the Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association back with renewed interest and a brand new facility. The Hagerstown Quarter Midget Speedway has perhaps the best location of any quarter midget track in the country. The facility is just a short walk from the 1st and 2nd turns of the infamous Hagerstown Speedway, one of the finest 1/2 mile dirt tracks in the country. Many know the Hagerstown Quarter Midget Speedway as the "Fastest Little Dirt Track in the East". People will tell you it is one of the nicest facilities anywhere.
